Trying to download the free pattern for Alan the Meerkat. Need help. Please advise.

    • Angela says:

Thanks for letting me know Janet. The problem is now fixed. Now all you need to do to download the pattern is click on the Free Patterns icon, then click on Alan the Meerkat Softie. At the bottom of the item description there are two hyperlinks – Pattern Sheet 1 and Pattern Sheet 2. Click on them to download each pattern sheet (you will need both). :)

  2. Aw love this skirt. Gotta add it to my to do list (and finish all the stuff that’s been languishing on that list this month)! By the way it would be cool to have line diagrams (showing zipper placement etc) for these.

Thank you so much for solving my dilema. My husband and his team-mates are in their local league snooker finals and I wanted to make them some dapper unique bowties. You have saved the day with your easy to follow pattern and instructions. Yay!! I will send you some pics if you let me know where to send them.

  4. Vanessa says:

THANK YOU!! thank you! thank you! I absolutely LOVE this bow tie tutorial!! It has got to be the best! My first ever and it was sooo easy! It did take me a few hours but that’s cause I was taking my time to make sure I did it right! Instructions were very clear. Pattern pieces were easy to put together. Altogether a great tutorial! Plus, it’s FREE!
I don’t have pictures cause I haven’t given it to my daughter’s boyfriend yet. My husband thought it looked too short but I found a youtube video on how to tie a bowtie and it fit my neck just fine! I love it!!
    Thanks so much!

    • Angela says:

Thank you so much for your kind feedback, I really appreciate it! I’m so happy you enjoyed my tutorial and found it easy to follow! Yay! I hope your daughter’s boyfriend has fun wearing his new bow tie. :)

  5. Meg says:

  6. Carla Vied says:

Angela, the tutorial and pattern are terrific. What size is the bow tie pattern? I need to make 4 ties: 15 1/2, 16 1/2, and 18 1/2. Please let me know how to adjust the pattern.

    Thanks,
    Carla Vied

    • Angela says:

Hi Carla, I’m glad you like the pattern and instructions. I made this pattern to fit my husband who has a 17″ neck. To make it bigger or smaller I would simply add or subtract the required amount at the centre back. Good luck making your bow ties! :)

  7. Ann says:

Thanks so much, Angela, for the free pattern and instructions! Made my husband a bow tie for a job interview this week – hope it works as a good luck charm. :)

My only suggestion would be for you to include a square on the pattern with measurements so that when printed, that square could be measured to judge whether the pattern is printing at the correct size.

    Thanks again!

  8. Lora Rodriguez says:

I am also having trouble downloading the pattern PDF. Would really like to try it out tho!

    • Angela says:

Hi Alec, I’m not sure what’s wrong. Everything seems to be working from this end. Did you click on the two link under the bow tie description? I’ll email you shortly. :)

  12. Stevi says:

    Hi Angela,
The bow tie pattern worked out great. I did find I had to thin the neck a bit (to get a neater knot) though as I chose a thicker peau de soie. I will email a picture. Thanks again for sharing.

  13. MJ says:

Hi Angela, the Bow Tie pattern and your instruction are great. I would like to know the meaning of “neck size”. Does it mean the collar size measured from the shirt or the size measured direct from the neck.

    • Angela says:

Hi MJ, I made this tie to fit my husband and the measurement of his actual neck is 43 cm (17″). Keep in mind that as the tie is cut on the bias, different fabrics will handle and stretch differently. For example, the poly/cotton gingham shown in the photos is quite stable, but not thick, so it has a moderate amount of give and fits him perfectly. I made another tie out of a floppier rayon, which stretched quite a lot along the bias, and as such was a little loose. Hope this helps!

I am looking all over the shop page for the free pattern icon and can’t seem to find it. Am I just missing it? I was interested in the bow tie pattern. Can you help me out? I feel silly that I don’t see it…

    • Angela says:

Hi Alicia, you are not silly at all! I am the silly one because I was having some technical trouble after updating my shop plugin. Sorry! It should be working now though. Once the shop page opens, click on free patterns, then click on bow tie pattern. Don’t add it to the shopping bag, but underneath the written description will be two links, ‘Bow Tie Instructions’ and ‘Bow Tie Pattern’. CLick on each one to automatically open the files. :)

  17. Hello,
I must say you have a sparkling web page!
I wanted to make a few bow ties and found you but my printer did not produce the drawings because I may have run out of ink so I tried black and white and that did not work either. i have the printing but not the lines. However we could go about it in a different way.
Do you sell the rotating blade fabric cutters and other useful tools for making bow ties. I have a cutting board and scissors. Then we could make up a parcel and maybe you could include the drawings?
    I use PayPal.

I have subscribed to your reflector
    Very best wishes

Thank you SO much for your free pattern and clear instructions! Very generous! I teach 8th grade art and wanted to make something special for my students for graduation (a big deal at our school). The girls are easy but I was stumped as to what to do for the boys. Bow ties are perfect! I can’t wait to pick out some funky fabrics and get started!

I love this bow tie, I’m working on it as we speak. I hope it turns out as nicely as yours

  21. David says:

Thank you so much for the pattern and instructions. The first one I made came out only slightly wonky (to be expected) but I’ve done several others with perfect results. Altered your pattern to do a few batwing shaped and a few with pointy ends. Also discovered that the pieces can be cut from the silk of a disassembled standard tie; it’s already cut on the bias, and most already have a center seam. Thanks again, have a great day!

    • Angela says:

Hi David, thanks for your lovely feedback. I’m so glad you’ve had such great results and have been able to experiment and personalise your ties!

  24. Rebecca says:

I need to make this for a 15 1/2 inch neck. I know the pattern is made for a 17″ neck. Do I adjust it by 1 1/2″ or just 3/4″? Also, have you made any ties with satin? Is there a lot of stretch to the bias?

    • Angela says:

Hi Rebecca, you will need to adjust the pattern so it is a total of 1 1/2″ shorter. If you are using the pattern with a CB seam, then each half of the tie will need to be only 3/4″ shorter as that will still total a reduction of 1 1/2″. Every fabric handles differently ao you may need to make further adjustments once you’ve tried your fabric. I haven’t made one from satin, but satin does tend to have a lot of stretch on the bias as such you may need to shorten the pattern slightly. The best way to determine how mush is to simply make a toile, or mock up tie in a cheap fabric of a similar weight and handle to your chosen fabric, try it on your man, note any alterations required and adjust your pattern accordingly.
