Here is the finished crochet softie that I was making for my friends’ little boy. It took ages to make especially as it was my first attempt at a crochet softie. Upon completing the first section – the body and tail, I noticed that the shape was kind of odd and seemed much bigger than I had anticipated. I did a YouTube search of double crochet stitch (single crochet in US terms) to make sure I was doing it right. Turns out I wasn’t. Oops! I had to unravel the entire body and tail and start again!
Making big mistakes while making something can be incredibly frustrating and disheartening, but it was so very satisfying to overcome the challenges and finish it. This softie is certainly not perfect, but the birthday boy (and his lovely parents) loved it and that’s what matters.
I found the pattern through Ravelry, which is a wonderful resource for knitting and crochet patterns and information. The pattern is by Purplelinda Crafts and it was very easy to follow which was great given my limited crochet experience. Now I can’t wait to have a go at another crochet softie!
