Autumn Fashion Inspiration

Around this time of year I usually start thinking about going through my wardrobe in preparation for the change in season. That’s not to say I plan on going out and buying a whole new season’s wardrobe – I don’t! In fact I think the idea we’re feed by fashion brands and magazines that we need lots of new styles every season is a very wasteful approach to fashion. But I do like to take the time reassess what’s in my wardrobe. There are a lot of pieces that I hardly ever wear that are still in good condition and can be donated to charity. There are also a few autumn.winter pieces that are really old and have sadly come to the end of their lives and may need replacing. Taking stock of your wardrobe is a great way to re-discover pieces, figure out new ways of styling certain pieces and identifying any gaps in your wardrobe.  For example, I’m rather low on warm winter tops so I’m in the process of making a couple of simple long sleeved shirts and I’m planning on learning to knit, too. Here are some images I’ve pinned to inspire me with different types of styling, layering and colour combos.

I love the combination of boots with knee high socks in the image above from Tick Tock Vintage – cute and cosy! For all images credits, click on the pictures! (They are not my pictures, they are from other clever and stylish people who inspire me!)

I am going to attempt to knit this sweater. I bought the pattern on Ravelry, but I haven’t bought the wool yet, so we’ll see how I go…

I love the earthy colours of this photo, I love cardigans and I love a good novelty print! Elsie from A Beautiful Mess hand printed this dress, you can see how she did it here. One of the shirts I’m making is covered in a humming bird print. I can’t wait to wear it!

I have tights this colour already and I love the way Rachel from Smile and Wave has styled them with blue peep-toe shoes.

I love the floral and the colour combination of this outfit worn by fashion blogger, Kim, from Eat Sleep Wear. The two-toned nail polish is fun, too.

I wear jeans all too often. Maybe some colourful, floral pants like Kim‘s would pull me out of my denim rut!

Tassels on shoes make me smile. So do pictures of snow because it doesn’t snow where I live. I have never even seen snow in real life! One day I will though. Le sigh! (This is another photo from stylish blogger, Veronika, of Tick Tock Vintage.)
